ABOUT THE CO-FOUNDERS

AliSkandaCleanSeas_edited.jpg

Ben Morison, Ali Skanda and Dipesh Pabari

Ali - a traditional dhow-builder from Lamu, Ben - a tourism business owner and Dipesh - an environmentalist with an obsession with plastic waste decided to put their concern for the growing amount of marine litter into positive action by building a boat from 10 tons of plastic that washed ashore Kenyan beaches. Since then, the movement has grown into a regional #plasticrevolution not only influencing change at the grassroot level but influencing legislation to ban single-use plastics in East Africa.

Background & Awards

In 2021, Flipflopi won a place in The prestigious Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) Programme established by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
